Q: How long has Honeywell had explosion-proof switches in its portfolio?
A: In 1937, the MICRO SWITCH™ Hazardous Location switch family was introduced, ushering in safer working environments in industrial settings. These switches were engineered to ensure that volatile gases that entered the switch and exploded would not ignite gases outside the switch enclosure. The configuration and size of the switches made them the smallest explosion-proof switches on the market – a position they still hold today.

What’s New
|
Quadrature Speed and Direction Sensors
Our new SNDH Series sensors give manufacturers a simple, new alternative for replacing “sensor bearing” products. By separating the sensor and bearing in electric motor bearing applications, the user can service the sensor without dismantling the vehicle to remove the bearing from the motor drive.
Honeywell’s patent-pending, dual differential Hall-effect IC (integrated circuit) BiCmos technology provides enhanced accuracy. Potential applications include transmissions, hydraulic motors, pumps and gear boxes, steering assembly direction of rotation and replacement for bearings with integrated sensors.

Bipolar Hall-effect Position Sensors
Honeywell’s SS40F/SS40G/SS41F/SS41G line of low-cost bipolar Hall-effect sensors are the answer for projects requiring high-volume applications and reduced lead time. The sensors provide enhanced sensitivity and operating temperature range and a faster output switching time than similar competitor offerings.
Potential applications include speed and RPM sensing, brushless dc (direct current) motor commutation, motor and fan control, tachometer, counter pickup and flow-rate sensing.

Linear Force and Rotary Torque Sensors
Honeywell’s strain gage-based linear force and rotary torque sensors comprise integral load cells and signal conditioning electronics to replace existing flight control linkages and control cable quadrants in elevator, aileron and rudder flight control systems on business, regional and commercial aircraft.
The sensors offer flexibility in output format and the potential for lower cost assemblies. Available technologies include thick film strain gauge, metal foil strain gauge and spring LVDT.

FF-SG Series AM2-L Safety Light Curtains
A longer scanning range, greater cable length and more mounting possibilities are among the features offered by the new FF-SG Series AM2-L. This series replaces the current AM2 series and brings enhanced features and quality in a competitively priced replacement product.
Potential applications include automotive plant floor comprising engine lines; welding and assembly; material handling; packaging equipment; printing machinery and paper guillotines; and various machine tool applications.

MICRO SWITCHTM TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION
The cool night air feels good, but your feet appreciate the warmth of the MICRO SWITCHTM
component-controlled baseboard heater as you step onto the chilly tile floor. After a hot shower, courtesy of a MICRO SWITCHTM
product in the water heater, it is time to shave, so you flick on your electric razor that uses MICRO SWITCHTM
technology. You pad down to the kitchen where you pop a frozen sausage breakfast patty in the microwave oven, yet you are not the least bit worried about radiation because you are guarded by MICRO
SWITCHTM technology-controlled interlocks.
